Striped Denim + Retro Accessories

The Look

It has been a minute! I've been so wrapped up in getting my travel posts up that I put a lot of the lookbook posts on the back burner this summer. While I included my looks and links to them in those travel posts, it's still nice to get back to my roots of style posts and how/why I put them together. Marijn and I tested out a new camera for these shots and couldn't be more pleased! September will be a whole new animal for us.

Now, back to the look. I've been experimenting a lot with different denim style, so these striped and structured reformation spoke to me. I love the cut and almost boxiness of them. Not to mention, they suck you is in all the right places. Seriously, you can actually feel the material tightening up around the upper thigh area and waist. I find this too be super flattering, but at ties a tad uncomfortable. Nothing I can't deal with for how great your legs look when wearing them! The vertical stripes give your legs that elongated look, especially when worn with heels!

With the jeans as the focus of the look, I went very comfortable and easy breezy for the rest of the look. A simple white t-shirt should always be on hand for moments like these. As you can, it complements the heels nicely, but this look is just as easily worn with sneakers. My sheer orange sunnies (found on Asos) and hairstyle give the entire look a very retro vibe. I love how th eorange tint of the lenses works so well with the warm tones of the Hermès scarf. Speaking of which, wrapping scarves around handbag handles has to be one of my new favorite thing to do with accessories!

Oversized Cardigan + Cargo Joggers

Aritzia Cardigan // Aritzia Joggers // Shop other items below

The Look

I have always been into the oversized look, especially when it comes to chunky knits and sweaters. These items can come at a steep price at Aritzia, but luckily, I snagged them during a sale (sweater is still on sale for even less)! It's truly one of the coziest things I own. It creates a contrast to the seemingly dressier top and bottoms paired with the lace-up heels. Mixing and matching dressy and non-dressy items is one of my favorite styling tactics. I added some texture and accessories like the McQueen scarf and black tote bag to give the look more depth. I see myself wearing the cardigan in the house with sweatpants and out to a nice dinner, possibly in this exact look!

Another sneaky sale I found was on the black cami by CAMI NYC. I've wanted one for a long time because of the silky look and quality material. I would wear this with jeans, joggers, shorts, skirts, you name it! It's one of those basics that you have forever. Definitely check out their other camis as well! They have ones with really pretty lace and lace-up detailing.

At this point, joggers a re a must have for everyone! Wearing them with heels is just as easy as wearing them with sneakers and they look great both ways; it all depends on the occasion. I could have easily worn this exact look with sneakers instead of heels if was running around. These types of versatile looks are the most useful to have in your closet. A quick shoe change and you get a totally different vibe! I love these joggers so much, I bought them in two colors, black and an army/olive green. They have the cargo vibe going, which I love because the material isn't thick and bulky. The material is breathable and lays pretty close to your body.

Navy Layers in the Flatiron District

Sweater: Madewell (Identical here) | Pants: Zara (Identical here) | Coat: Mackage Sneakers: Adidas

The Look

There is no better feeling in blogging than completing a bunch of look shoots after waking up at 5:30am in frigid temperatures. One of our most productive days came this past Sunday, when we hit the bare streets of New York to power through a few looks. This was one of them! Naturally, the first look and earliest shoot includes PJ vibes.

This look combines everything from high end to affordable, which is what I normally strive for. I found these awesome pinstripe, tearaway pants on sale at Zara! They still have tons of similar styles on sale, so definitely check them out. I am always wearing jeans, so changing it up with a wide leg trouser was just what I needed to shake things up! These pants are so comfortable and I absolutely love wearing them with sneakers. They give these pants and look as a whole a street style vibe and effortless feel.

I decided to pair these pants with a super soft and cozy sweater from Madewell. The mock neck is perfect because it’s looser than a turtleneck, but high enough to block that cold early morning wind! Again, this sweater falls a little above the price range of Zara, and below that of the Mackage coat. I’ve never found a sweater from Madewell that wasn’t soft, so it’s definitely one of my first places to look for them!

Finally, I completed this look with a Navy dress coat by Mackage. I did this partly to get that monochrome navy look, and partly to create a look with higher end and affordable pieces. I love this coat because you can dress it down very easily as you can see, and dress it way up over a dress with heels. It is very versatile, but also references subtle street style vibes. The extra long belt makes me think of Off White with their bright yellow or white waist belts! It’s small things like this this that truly complete an outfit and finding inspiration in other designers and clothing is key to getting the most out of your closet!
