Black Puffer in Soho + How I Test Out New Styles & Trends

Claudia Di Capua

Top: Express (similar here) | Coat: Gimo's (similar here) | Jeans: Levi'sBoots: Alexander WangSunglasses: Asos (similar here) | Belt: HauteLook

THE LOOK

It’s still cold out, so I’m still breaking out jackets and coats! When it comes to puffer coats, I like to select ones that have something special or unique to them, otherwise it looks like any puffer. This slightly longer jacket has a slight sheen to the black material, which drew me in. The dramatic white collar and zipper line are what sold me! The puffer is warm on its own, but the fur collar take it to another level. This was super helpful on this particular day because I was wearing a sleeveless turtleneck underneath. I linked a similar one above because this one is a showroom pull and comes out next season.

Most of the items in this look were found in my closet, meaning I didn’t have to go out and buy new things to build this look. I love when that happens! In fact, this sleeveless turtleneck, Levi’s jeans, belt and Alexander Wang boots are a bunch of my favorite go to’s for everyday use. The look is very clean, but includes a hint of edginess with the boots and accessories.

How I Test New Trends

Colored sunglasses were something I had been wanting to try, but not something I wanted to spend a chunk of money on before I was sure I liked them. In these moments, I turn to Asos. This online store has literally everything! Asos always has the best prices on versions of trending or popular styles of any fashion item. I highly recommend turning to them if you want to try a new style, but are not sold 100% yet. I ended up liking my colored sunglasses, but if I hadn’t, I would have only lost $10 if I chose not to return them. Once you start strategizing your purchases, you end up saving money in the long run and purchasing what you love more often.

Oversized Knits + White Denim Overalls

Claudia Di Capua

Sweater: Zara (also here and here) / Overalls: Topshop (similar herehere and here) / Boots: Asos (similar here and here)

The Look

Getting back into overalls for the first day of spring! You may remember these overalls from my trip to Paris, but they have been such a staple in my closet that I still use them all the time. they look perfect layered with everything from a sleeveless tank top to a chunky knit like the one in this post. I found this oversized sweater a Zara and have found it to be extremely useful recently. I wore it to New York Fashion Week and it has proven to be versatile ever since!

I love the sporty "cool girl" vibe that these layers give off. It is as purposeful as it is effortless. Having the sweater spill out the sides of the overalls adds my favorite street element to the look. I got lucky finding these boots because they sold out so quickly! Don't worry, I linked a couple of other similar versions include these exact ones in gold. I love studded leather and these boots are a sleek way of combining the two!

Holiday Shopping Uniform: Cozy Layers

Claudia Di Capua

Outfit information and tips are located at the bottom of this post!

Sweatshirt: SpringCoat: SheIn (also here) / Jeans: GapBoots: ASOS (also here and here) / Hat: Club Monaco (also here) / Bag: ExpressBandana: Madewell

The Look

It is frigid outside! This full length split lapel coat comes in handy when the wind starts blowing. For this look, I wanted to dress down an otherwise dressy coat with simple and casual pieces. I started with a Spring sweatshirt and paired that with a pair of frayed ankle light wash jeans. I'm a huge supporter of bringing looks together using detailed accessories. It's all about what you do with what you have to manipulate looks. For example, I just got this Madewell bandana, and while I like to wear it around my neck, it also serves as a cute tie around the strap of a bag. I love how the fray of the jeans sits right above my favorite Asos pointed toe ankle boots. the croc texture makes these shoes so bad ass and they are perfect alternative to sneakers. Finally, the pom pom hat! It is oh so cozy and works so well with this coat. It helps to make the looks more casual, but also is a cute spin on the regular winter beanie. This type of layering is my ideal for cold holiday shopping days! Simply throw on your favorite skinny jeans, sweater/sweatshirt, and oversized coat and all that is left to add are the finishing accessories!
