My Skincare & Makeup Routine

My beauty routine always starts with skincare! I find this to be 1000x more important than having perfect makeup all the time. Makeup is meant to enhance your natural features in my opinion, so I like to keep those features in pristine shape. I make sure to moisturize twice a day and exfoliate regularly with masks and peels. It's the small things that not many people do that makes all the difference. I apply things like sunscreen in the morning to combat sun damage and eye cream before bed to get a head start on wrinkle care. I love taking care of my skin, so check out my routine below!

1. Exfoliate

Similar to my moisturizers, I have a lighter one and a grainier one. The Aveeno scrub is much more soothing and has very fine exfoliating agents. I use this one in the morning or on a day without much activity. The St. Ives scrub is a little rougher, but is perfect for after a workout! I love using that one and then applying my ponds lotion at night. I feel super soft! Usually once per week or every other week I will use a charcoal mask or a peel to get a little bit deeper than the exfoliating scrubs can.

2. Moisturize

As I mentioned earlier, I use moisturizers and exfoliators. In the morning, I use a lighter moisturizer by First Aid Beauty sold at Sephora because it absorbs well and doesn't make my face look greasy throughout the day. I like to use a ponds face cream before going to sleep along with an origins eye cream because it is a little bit heavier and repairs my skin well overnight.

Ever wonder how I do my makeup for events or my blog posts? Well, I'm about to tell you how! While I always start with my skincare routine, a little makeup adds the finishing touch. I don't like super bold or obvious makeup, so I normally lean towards neutral/natural tones and products that give a natural glow effect. I don't wear anything like foundation or other heavy products because I like to keep it light and comfy. Check my exact process below!

1. (More) Moisturizing

After I apply my First Aid moisturizer, my next move is to apply the Nars tinted moisturizer in St. Moritz. It has an additional SPF, so while it evens out my skin tone, it also protects my skin!

2. (Occasionally) Conceal

If I look a little tired, I like to blend two different Nars Concealers in shades Custard (lighter) and Biscuit (one shade darker) under my eyes. This helps to brighten up the area right under my eye and add a little vibrance.

3. Contour (Lightly!)

Like I said before, I like everything to look natural, so I apply products very lightly! I don't even use a real contour kit for this, I just apply products that I have to simulate a contour. I start with a Sephora Collection matte bronzer just under my cheekbones and guiding it into my hairline.

4. Highlight/Blush

This is the one step that I like to add a little extra because I love a nice glow or sheen! I switch off between using the Nars highlighter in Albatross and a Becca highlighter in Opal. Both are great! Albatross has a gold shine to it and Opal leaves more of a rose gold shimmer (great if you are tan)! I don't always use blush, but when I do I use Nars in Orgasm and apply it sparingly on the apples of my cheeks.

5. Eyes

Next, I add a nude eye shadow as a base by Bare Minerals. Then, I line the area closest to my lashes with a smokey grey or charcoal color. I love the cream shadows by Benefit! I put enough on to know it's there, but not an overwhelming amount. Lastly for the eyes, I apply a Benefit Mascara, which is kind of hard to take off, but looks great when it's on!

6. Lips

I keep the lips quite basic and occasionally mix some of my favorite nude shades. Anais by Marc Jacobs has always been a go-to, but I love Buxom in Sultry Mauve if I'm looking to go a little darker and rosier. I layer any Revlon or NYX I have if they are nude! For matte lipstick, I have been loving Candy K by Kylie Cosmetics (Don't judge me)! It actually works well and looks greta with my skin tone!

3 Trendy Athletic Wear Brands You May Not Have Heard Of

Claudia Di Capua

I don't know about you, but I sometimes find myself getting tired of my usual workout outfit routine. I had to do a post about a few of my favorite up and coming (and on trend) workout lines. There are more and more athleisure-wear companies popping up, which makes it hard to keep track. They all have their own personalities, so I though I'd share a few that resonate with my style! Alala has been making it's mark over the past few months as a go to for those looking for a more street style vibe when working out. Alala combines trend with function in items like the seemless mesh sportsbra or marble printed leggings!

This is a new one for me, but I love the bold prints I found when shopping the Vie Active online store. I love the mesmerizing prints and fun breezy looks for summer. My favorites are the leggings to the far left and the matching sports bra at the bottom!

I love finding new activewear companies and find the ones that work best for my type of workout. Doing it in style is a plus!

If you are looking for something a bit edgier, Vimmia is the stop for you! I love how this brand incorporates sleek lines and trendy features like a cage front on a sports bra. This adds a new spin on a necessary item. I'm a huge fan of blue, marble, white, black and grey when it comes to workout clothes. This allows me to match everything easily and ensure that I like the item for a longer period of time. Vimmia had so many options that fell into these color categories I could probably by the whole store! The chic additions like the breathable back tank top in the top left  corner are what keep me interested and comfy.

Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening

Claudia Di Capua

Finally tried out a tooth whitening kit and to say the least, I'm pretty impressed! Checkout what's included, how to use it, testimonials, and the best of all, a GIVEAWAY! That's right. Win the entire kit! Find those details at the bottom of this post.

This whitening kit comes with EVERYTHING you'll need to make your little pearlies even brighter! Most of the time, molds like this will cost you hundreds of dollars at a dentists office, but Smile Brilliant has made it more accessible. An entire kit including the final molds will only cost about $140 (GO TO BOTTOM FOR GIVEAWAY DETAILS)!

Step 1:

Grab one case of the Catalyst Paste and one case of the Base Paste (one blue and one white).

Step 3:

Place the light blue combo on the piece the tray that looks like a mouth guard. Put this in your mouth and bite down to get a mold of your top teeth. Hold there for 2 minutes! Repeat steps 1-3 for the bottom mold.

Step 5:

My teeth are a little sensitive due to being a swimmer for my whole life, so I used the desensitizing gel for 20 minutes prior to the actual whitening gel. Apply this to the molds if you'd like to use it!

Before

Step 2:

Combine pastes until it has a light blue color. Make sure to move quickly because it will activate the hardening once you mix them!

Step 4:

Ahhh, the final product! After mailing your molds back to Smile Brilliant, they create the whitening molds that are reusable! They are then mailed back to you after a week or so and come with a cute case.

Step 6:

Once you're done with the desensitizing gel, rinse off your molds, then apply the whitening gel. Keep that in your mouth for another 20 minutes. The desensitizing gel should help with any discomfort you might have had.

After

Major Takeaways

As you can see, there is a dramatic difference between the first day and the fifth day! The whitening kit helped to enhance the brightness and obviously whiteness over the course of a week. It managed to eliminate any stains that may have accumulated over the years. The price is a bargain compared to buying it with a dentist and you are getting the exact same quality with a product that is but to fit you! If you need more proof, check out other users testimonials HERE and learn more about the brand HERE.

Giveaway Info

Prize = $139.95 store credit which is equal to the Teeth Whitening Trays + 3 whitening gel syringes and 3 desensitizing gel syringes or the Teeth Whitening Trays + 6 whitening gel syringes. The winner will be given a code which they can use at checkout. The giveaway is also international, but if the winner is outside of the US, they will have to pay the shipping cost for sending their impressions back to Smile Brilliant.

Kylie Lip Kit + Glosses

Claudia Di Capua

Here is my review of one of the Kylie Lip Kits and all three glosses! Find out what I found to be the positives and negatives of each product plus a few other products that I like to pair the Kylie ones with.

Candy K Lip Kit

What it Includes: Lip liner and liquid matte lipstick

My thoughts: The original lip kit color and my favorite of all! Everything you've heard about this lip-stick laying on thin and drying completely is 100% true. I love the deep rosie nude tone because it works well with my skin color and complements my blush.

The only discrepancy I have, as with any matte lipstick, is that your lips become dry and can causing cracking in the actual lipstick. I have gotten around this by applying a lot of Carmex chapstick prior to the lipstick.

The Packaging

All of the packaging stayed true to the Kylie brand and aesthetic, which I can really appreciate. Everything looks very professional. The drip design is consistent in all aspects from the mailing box to the actual tube of lipstick/lipgloss.

IMG_0847.jpg

Like Gloss

What it includes: Single gloss

My thoughts: At first I thought this shade was going to be too dark, but after wearing it, I found that it blended really well with my lip color. It doesn't look like it's just sitting on your lips. This shade is the perfect complement to the Candy K lip kit if you are looking for a glossier finish because it is a bit deeper and rosy.

Literally Gloss

What's Included: Single gloss

My thoughts: This shade is slightly lighter than Like, which I find to be better for more casual use. I occasionally layer this shade with a more saturated lip color like NYX colors.

So Cute Gloss

What's included: Single gloss

My thoughts: I thought that this shade was going to be the easiest to wear and therefor y favorite, but I was surprised by something. The shade is so light that it sometimes looks to milky without a base. I started applying a nude Revlon lipstick first and then adding the lip gloss to give it a richer look!

Final Thoughts

On The Lip Kit: The tip is soft and the gloss goes on smoothly. Matte lipsticks tend to dry out you lips so definitely use chapstick! The shades seem to look different on everyone, so think carefully about what you think will look best on you.

On the Lip Goss: The lip glosses are great, but you have to have patience to draw in the lines. The brush is not my favorite because it is similar to a nail polish brush, but it still works well. Precision is key with the glosses, but I do love the shades!

Best Nail Colors for Spring/Summer By Brand

Claudia Di Capua

ESSIE

We can always trust that Essie will have tons of go-to colors and constantly be adding new shades! Here are a few of my new faves and some that I need to try this spring/summer!

OPI

OPI colors are like the cadillac of nail polish colors for me. I can always count on OPI to have quality polishes. I've recently tried out their gel colors and I love that they don't dry too thick! Alpine Snow is my all time favorite by them.

Sally Hansen

Sally Hansen polishes have been around forever and are trusted by so many. I love that they sell a bunch of different products to give you a unique look. The crackle prints and nail stickers make your nails eye catchers. For everyday-wear in the spring and summer, I like to play it simple by using one of the shades to the left!

1. Gilty Party

2. Mudslide

3. In Full Blue

4. Barracuda

5. Sheer Ecstasy

6. Let's Snow

My New Secret Weapon

Claudia Di Capua

Okay, so this might be obvious for some, but I have a new obsession. It's sunscreen! Specifically for my face. I don't trust just any sunscreen because of all the harsh chemicals that can be found in a good amount of them. I did a bit of research and fond out that mineral sunscreens are among the healthiest to use! These are generally chemical free and most contain FDA (Food And Drug Administration) approved active ingredients. Find out why I am now warding off harmful UV Rays using Bare Republic Natural Mineral Sunscreen below!

Favorite Lipsticks + How They Look On

Claudia Di Capua

Excited to show you all my favorite lipsticks plus how they actually look on (Those are my lips with the various colors)! These are my favorite shades for all occasions at different price points. Use the links provided to be directed to where to purchase each lipstick.

Marc Jacobs: Anais

I love this color because of how neutral it is. It looks so natural and works with every look I have on! I usually wear this with a smokey eye because it helps to tame the look and make it more sophisticated. Anais is truly my go-to color and looks very elegant on!

Benefit: La La Land

This shade is slightly darker than I normally wear, but benefit has some amazing products! I love the creaminess of this color and how evenly and smoothly it goes on. La La Land helps to enhance the natural color of my lips. I don't usually use lip liner, but this color would look great with one. Also, this color looks great with a sheer gloss or neutral lipstick or gloss.

Revlon: Pink Truffle

Pink Truffle is by far my favorite drug store lipstick find! It is such a pretty plummy/rosy pink color and adds a nice pop to your makeup without being overwhelming. Not to mention, it was super inexpensive. Honestly, I'm not sure why I haven't tried some of Revlon's other shades, but it's probably because I love this one so much!

Laura Mercier: Peony

This color is slightly out of my comfort zone, but I love the brightness of it. I normally stick to more neutral and muted tones, but this Laura Mercier color is a light and pretty for spring. I like mixing this color with my nude shades if I want to tone down the brightness.

Buxom: Satin Mauve

This is a new purchase for me and it was definitely the right move! I would estimate that this Buxom shade is about one shade darker than the Laura Mercier shown above. It is also slightly more purply. I love the look of darker lip shades and this lipstick made it easy to ease my way into it.

Butter London: Black Cherry

So far, this is the darkest color I have worn. Black Cherry is an amazing plum purply color and looks amazing on olive or pale skin tones. I love the saturation of this shade and how it strays away from the classic deep red. One thing I will say is that if you plan to wear a dark color, make sure you exfoliate your lips because the dead skin WILL show up and it will leave dark specks on your lips!

Muddy Body Hair Mask

Claudia Di Capua

Every part of your body should get to be moisturized! Muddy Body makes this possibly not only for your skin, but also your hair. Random Yet Helpful Beauty Tips

Claudia Di Capua

Check out some beauty tips and products that help you take care of your skin in new ways! Moisturizing is good, but there are so many more things you can do to help defy the looks of aging. If you have any tips that I missed, please feel free to put them in the comments! Click any image to be directed to where to buy each item!

Rose water helps to balance your skins pH and acts as a light moisturizer. Great for touchups throughout the day and works well when you need to even out your skin tone!

Waterproof mascara weakens your eye-lashes, ladies! I usually opt for this Too Faced mascara because it really adds VOLUME. Make sure to replace makeup that goes on your eyes every few months to reduce risk of infection.

Metallic nail polish makes your nails week and brittle causing them to break more easily. My current go to color is white! I love it for all seasons.

You can moisturize all you want, but if you really want to look like you're 40 when you're 80, you need to protect your skin from the sun! It does the most long term damage that you don't notice early on. You'll thank yourself later!

Cleaning your makeup brushes is a commonly skipped step in most people's regimens. If you don't clean your brushes often, bacteria can develop causing breakouts on your face.

This product contains retinoids, which keep your pores clean and your skin tight! Start using products like these in your 20's to ensure long term results.

Invest in a less invasive scrub for your face. You want to be able to cleanse your pores everyday and while a rough scrub often feels relieving, it can end up opening your pores even more making it easier for dirt and grime to get in!

Peels purposely damage skin in order to get the dead skin to slough away. This forces your skin to regenerate new and healthy skin!

Lipsticks can often dry out your lips. If you already have dried lips, the dead skin becomes more visible once you've put on lipstick. avoid this by using a lip scrub before putting on lipstick and a balm or chapstick after taking it off!

People often bypass their hands, elbows, and knees when it comes to moisturizing. Oddly enough, these are some of the first places you'll notice signs of aging! Make sure to get in-between those fingers!

Castor oil is a great addition to a DIY hair mask! Mix it with lavender and peppermint oil to add shine, moisture, and prevent your scalp from getting dried out. It's an easy step to add right after getting out of the shower!

Opt for a comb when brushing wet hair! Hairbrushes tend to pull out hair as your hair follicles are more sensitive and delicate after being removed from warm water. Try rinsing your hair in cold water right before you get out to help close up those follicles!

Valentines Day Activities That Won't Break The Bank: Featuring Muddy Body

Claudia Di Capua

You know it's almost Valentine's Day when bae starts making guest appearances on the blog! I've put together a list of affordable V-Day activities that are fun to do with boyfriends, girlfriends, best friends, and family! Honestly, at home facials with Muddy Body and bae sound like a perfect date night to me. Use code CLAUDIA10 to get 10% off all Muddy Body products! They make great gifts too!

There has been a lot of pressure for people to give elaborate gifts and do crazy things that are often pretty expensive on this holiday. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but where are the fun V-Day options for people like students that don't have lots of $$$$ to spend?! In this case, we must be creative! We decided to put together a list of fun AND affordable Valentine's Day activities for not only students, but anyone else that thinks they want to have a spectacular February 14th without breaking the bank! P.S. Keep in mind that nothing on this list is restrictive to couples! Do these activities with your friends and family if there isn't a significant other in your life.

Let's start off by discussing one of my favorite skincare brands, Muddy Body.

I love this company because of the all natural and organic ingredients that are in each product. All of the masks keep you skin feeling soft and nourished days after using it, which is why I thought it would be a fun activity to do with Marijn (Bae=Marijn). We both get that oily skin glint every now and then, so I figured he would be the perfect candidate to join me. It's a fun activity to do with someone else because you can treat it as somewhat of a spa day and have fun applying the mask on each other like we did! I'm a huge fan of the Detox mask, but wanted to try out the Refresh mask this time around. They both work really well to tone and soften skin! See how to apply and use the mask in my last post featuring Muddy Body by clicking HERE.

One of these bottles is only $23.99 and get 10% off by using code CLAUDIA10 at checkout!

Other V-Day Activities:

1. Bake your own Valentine's Day inspired desserts and have a movie night. Make a cupid cake or heart shaped cookies (or both, obviously).

2. Go ice skating at your local ice rink with your significant other and/or friends.

3. Go to a painting class. If you go in groups, the rates go down!

4. Make a sweet Happy Valentine's Day/Love you video! Get creative, but no weird stuff.

5. A surprise dinner made by you.

6.  Go to a pet shop or adoption center and play with puppies!

7. Put together V-Day treats and bring them to an orphanage or homeless shelter.

8. Take a cooking class (a sushi or chocolate making class will do).

From 1-4 - Ultra repair cream, Mario Bacescu rose water spray, ultra repair hydrating serum, First Aid starter set.

Before we even start considering different makeup, we first need to take care of our skin! These are a few of my favorite moisturizing products, mostly from First Aid. I like to spray on the rose water and then apply some of the hydrating serum so that I can blend in both at the same time. Throughout the day the rose water is great to use as a light moisturizer just to keep you fresh!

From 1-8 - Fresh eye gel cream, Too Faced better than sex mascara, Too Faced shadow insurance eye shadow primer, Naked 2 smokey eye kit, Benefit cream eye shadow in birthday suit, Benefit cream eye shadow in skinny jeans, Origins under eye cream, Benefit brow gel.

It's all about the eyes when getting all dolled up! I use the eye creams before I go to bed to reduce under eye circles and puffiness the next day. I seriously have never seen a mascara that works as well as this one. It helps to make your lashes look longer and fuller! I only use shadow primer when I use a powder eye shadow to keep it from falling off, but if I use either of the Benefit cream shadows (which are amazing), I can use it as a liner above my lashes or to create a smokey eye. This brow gel is almost like mascara for your brows. I know that sounds weird, but it works really well for me because it gives them some depth, but not to much. Not going to surpass the Delevigne level!

Face:

5.

From 1-5 - Nars blush in orgasm, Nars blush and highlighter in Albatrass, Nars creamy concealer, Maybelline bronzer/highlighter in Nude, e.l.f. brush set.

I don't go to crazy with the face because I usually like the eyes and lips to be the focus, but I have really taken a a liking to Nars products. They go on smooth and blend really nicely. The whiter Albatrass color is great to use on your brow bone in addition to your face because it gives off a little sheen. Everyone always asks me if I use a contour kit, but I truly don't! Honestly, this Maybelline bronzer that I found at Target does the trick. I brush some over my cheek bones, on my chin, forehead and a bit down my nose for this effect.

From 1-7 - Carmex chapstick, Fresh lip sugar scrub, Buxom sultry mauve lipstick, Butter London black cherry lipstick, Marc Jacobs anais lipstick, NYX Lip pencil lipstick in red, Nars lip pencil in bahama

Throughout regular days, I am always applying Carmex to make sure that this cold weather doesn't dry them out! I also like to put on a lot before I go to sleep so that it absorbs over night! If I ever have stubborn dry pieces (which are very visible when I have lipstick on), I use the sugar scrub from Fresh. Think of it as an exfoliator for your lips that works to remove the dead skin. Depending on what look I'm going for I use a darker or nude lip color. The Marc Jacobs in Anais is my favorite because if you have a good smokey eye going, the nude lip looks really chic. For darker shades, I prefer colors more on the purply/maroon side, so I love the Butter London and Buxom shades shown above! The bright red by NYX is really for very specific looks because it is truly an eye catcher

L'Reve Pearl Facial Peel and Moisturizer

Claudia Di Capua

L'Reve is a Luxury Skincare brand combining some of the most sought after jewels with different skincare treatments. For this post, I will be reviewing the Pearl Facial Peel and Moisturizer. I will say that both were very easy to use and really did softened my skin. Many of L'Reve's other products (that I will later be reviewing) include materials such as gold and diamonds, which explains the higher cost of the products. Keep reading to find out how I scored about 8 items that would have normally totaled to about $2000 for just over $100!

Facial Peel:

The purpose of this peel is to remove any and all of the dead skin cells that are on the surface of your face. At first, I wasn't sure if it was going to work because the peel didn't kick in until I rubbed it in a bit. Sure enough, after circling the gel like peel onto my face, I could feel the little beads of dead skin sloughing off and piling up on the surface of my face! It was honestly so satisfying because it felt like I was purging my skin!

How To Apply:

1. After cleaning and drying your skin, apply the peel moving your fingertips in a circular motion around the surface of your face.

2. After enough dead skin has been released, rinse your face with warm water.

Moisturizer:

This luxury moisturizer was the finishing touch to this routine. My face was so soft after using both products! I found that my skin was soft for more than just the immediate period of time because i still felt smooth the next day. Moisturizing is the best thing you can do to replenish your skin after taking off that dirty dead skin! You help to heal and repair the new skin that becomes exposed.

How To Apply:

1. Place on desired amount.

2. Rub the moisturizer in in a circular motion until your skin has absorbed it fully.

I was lucky enough to have found this product on Haute Look. Normally, L'Reve products can range from $70 all the way to $1,000. I was able to score about 8 items for a little over $100! I encourage everyone to sign up with Haute Look because I have found so many deals on brands that I actually love!

Overall, I loved how this product worked on my skin. I know that normally these products cost a bit more, but I definitely think that they work! My skin is still extremely soft a few days after, so I will likely continue this regimen once a week and moisturize daily with my normal moisturizer.

I knew I had to try this product out, so I collaborated with the Muddy Body team! My University has finals this week, so I wanted to try out my Detox mask before my exams came around. Find the steps on how to use this product to get the most out of it and the effects it had on my skin below! Use code CLAUDIA10 to get 10% off your next Muddy Body order.

Before you begin, make sure you have a small bowl, a spoon and a cup filled with about a 1/2 inch of water on hand!

Step 1:

Pour a spoonful of your mask mix into your small bowl. It's ok if this looks like more than what you need for your face. I used the excess mask I had and put it on the tops of my hands!

Step 3:

Step 2:

Next, pour a few drops of water into the bowl containing your mask to activate the it. You can also use other liquids like rose water, apple cider vinegar or green tea for added benefits!

Step 4:

Once you've combined both the water and mask powder, stir them together until you achieve a smooth and "muddy" consistency using the special face mask application brush.

Step 5:

Apply and have fun with it! Naturally, I drew a mustache and heart on my face, but I eventually got to the rest of it :). Make sure to evenly apply the mask on your face. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes (selfies and snapchats are a must). This is definitely a fun thing to do with your friends, boyfriend, girlfriend or family!

When the mask dries on your skin it should look like drying clay. It also resembled somewhat of a camo print on my skin!

Step 6:

Once the mask dries or you've waited 10-15 minutes, rinse off the mask with warm water and pat your skin dry. For the best results use the mask 1-2 times a week. It will keep your skin feeling soft and clear!

The impact of the detox mask was instantaneous. My face felt smoother and my skin felt tighter in the hours after I took it off. I took this picture the morning after using the mask and I noticed that I had almost no redness whatsoever. I normally have pink cheeks and some redness around my nose, but this mask helped to reduce that substantially as well as keep my skin super soft!

Have I convinced you to get muddy yet?! Try it out for yourself! Truly, I only post about products and items that I really feel are beneficial and do what they say they can do. This mask as well as my refresh mask are definitely now part of my beauty regimen. Take care of your skin, guys! This product can definitely help you do that!
