Summer Trend: Off The Shoulder Tops

Claudia Di Capua

I have recently decided that over the shoulder tops are my favorite summer trend! I think they will be making their mark in many of our closets this season for many occasions to come. See below for different versions of this trend as well as why each one has its benefits. Skip to the bottom if you already are convinced of this trend and want to find out how to keep the off the shoulder sleeves from riding up...in video form thanks to my always favorite Refinery29!

Short Sleeve

No matter how off the shoulder your top is, summer is summer, which means there will be super warm days! These are the times when we can shed the sleeves all together and rock a a short sleeve version of this trend.

Don't be afraid to play with colors and prints! Long vertical lines look amazing on untucked casual blouses. They elongate your torso and are quite slimming.

I'm obsessed with Nordstrom's selection of of the shoulders because of the array of prices and styles. I find that they cater more too my minimal taste and cold color admiration. If you are looking for cool blues and breezy whites, Nordstrom is your stop!

Peplum

The peplum is a particular style that is not loved by all, but I find that it looks nice on an off the shoulder top!

This style is perfect for those looking for a more feminine version of this trend and looks really cute in pink and white shades.

There is a more delicate feel to the top, plus it adds a little flare! We know the peplum is not for everyone, but it definitely helps to add some variety to an otherwise simple trend.

Long Sleeve

Definitely my favorite of the three! These work great casually as well as for work wear. I've been wearing mine with a sleeveless blazer, so just a hint of skin peeks threw. This is a great workwear option if your office has that type of vibe!

It's summer, so let's forget work and get down to real business. Depending on the top, it can be great for get togethers with friends or a staple in your vacation luggage. There is a version for all occasions.

I love this trend and think it is going to be the must have item and style this summer for not only tops, but also dresses!

Pro Tip

Over the shoulder tops can be restricting in terms of arm movement. Watch the video for a tip on how to keep your top from riding up your shoulders! I mean really, that's the whole point of the top!
